The Beijing-based Chinese flag carrier has launched its new Business Class product for its Airbus A350 fleet – which features an enhanced Recaro seat – but now without privacy sliding doors.
Air China – a member of Star Alliance – has begun installing this new German-made “mini-suite” into its twenty Airbus A350-900s. The carrier has been flying with an older-style Recaro seat - Super Diamond - in its Business Class. Recaro says the new seat will help save fuel costs as its predecessor weighed so much more. It followed that the latest version is one of the lightest full-flat Business Class seats ever made. The suite does have the capability for sliding privacy doors but Air China opted not to install these.
The Stuttgart-based seatmaker Recaro boasts that, “the mini-suite feel is created through the quality finish and ambient lighting. State-of-the-art ergonomic features include numerous comfort positions, a six-way adjustable headrest, premium foam technology and a 1.98-meter bed length.” The new cabins A350-900 cabins has staggered seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.
Air China first flew its Airbus A350s in 2018 on its popular international routes – including London, Frankfurt, and Milan – as well as popular high-traffic domestic routes – including Beijing to Shanghai. Air China has not indicated which routes will fly the new A350-900 Business Class cabin.
On each the airline's other A350-900s, Air China has 32 seats in Business Class (1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration), 24 seats in premium economy (2-4-2) and with just over 250 seats taking up economy class.
The carrier also flies Boeing 747-8s and 777-300ERs – both with a Business Class product – but in an “uncompetitive” 2-2-2 seat arrangement.
