Air France has selected Xavier Thuizat, Head Sommelier at Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, to curate its upcoming wine, Champagne, and spirits list for all travel cabins and lounges at its Paris airports. Thuizat will also be crafting a new selection of French beers.
Born in Burgundy, Thuizat, who was named Meilleur Sommelier de France in 2022, Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2023, and recently awarded the Michelin Guide's Grand Prix de la Sommellerie 2024, is celebrated for his impeccable and thoughtful selections. To develop this new offering, he will collaborate with Air France teams to conduct blind tastings across France's wine regions, ensuring only the finest wines are chosen for enjoyment on board and in lounges.
The new Air France wine list, curated by Thuizat, will feature France's premier grape varieties, including those from Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Languedoc-Roussillon, the Loire Valley, and Alsace.
Thuizat succeeds Paolo Basso, the world's best sommelier in 2013, who has been creating a distinguished wine and champagne list for Air France since 2014.
Air France serves over a million bottles of Champagne and more than 8 million bottles of wine to its customers every year!
