Air India is introducing a brand new Premium Economy experience for travellers, offering superior cabin amenities, improved in-flight services, and added convenience on the ground.
The airline has begun selling tickets for the new cabin, which will be available for travel from May 15th, making Air India the first and only Indian carrier to offer four cabin classes: First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.
Initially, Air India's Premium Economy class will only be available on select routes operated by its fleet of Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, namely Bengaluru-San Francisco, Mumbai-San Francisco, and Mumbai-New York.
Explaining the airline's decision to introduce the service, Campbell Wilson, CEO Air India said “The popularity of Premium Economy has been on the rise among travellers worldwide as they increasingly seek upgraded, yet affordable flying experiences.”
Premium Economy is designed to provide customers who are willing to pay a reasonable premium over Economy Class fares with an enhanced travel experience that includes a more space, comfort, and convenience.
Air India Premium Economy customers will enjoy a fast-track airport experience, dedicated check-in counters, priority tags for check-in baggage, and priority boarding.
The Premium Economy class on Air India's Boeing 777-200LR aircraft features a separate, spacious cabin with 48 leather-upholstered, memory foam seats that are wider (19 inches - 48 centimetres), have greater pitch (38 inches - 97 centimetres), recline (5 inches - 13 centimetres) with adjustable leg rests and footrests, and winged headrests. The seats provide ample legroom for customers to stretch out during the flight, making it easier to rest or work comfortably.
Premium Economy customers will receive a complimentary, TUMI amenity kit specially designed for Air India, as well as noise-cancelling headphones to use during the flight. Customers will also be treated to a fresh culinary experience, with a welcome drink served on an elegant silver tray, a menu card reflecting meal choices, and fine chinaware. They can choose from a selection of three meal options, including an appetiser and dessert, accompanied by a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
