Air New Zealand has leased a Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 complete with a First Class cabin.
Aotearoa's national carrier - like its Australian competitor Qantas - has leased the aircraft due to capacity issues.
The Boeing 777 features six “open suites” in First Class and 53 lie-flat seats in Business Class.
The aircraft - which will be with Air New Zealand until 2026 - will sport non-Cathay Pacific livery and undergo some cosmetic interior rebranding. The catering and service in First will be the same as that offered by Air New Zealand in Business Class.
The main difference between First Class and Business Class is the “open suite” in First - one of the most spacious and luxurious in the sky. The B777 Business Class also offers lie-flat seats. Both are superior to Air New Zealand's current seating.
The First Class suites are being sold as Business Premier Preferred - an upgrade from Business Premier. The aircraft will fly mainly from Auckland to Houston but is also scheduled for flights between Melbourne and Sydney to Auckland - and will cost around USD80 for the shorter routes and USD320 for the trans-Pacific flight.
Air New Zealand will debut a new Business Class suite in 2024.
