From this month, some passengers flying from Tokyo Haneda to San Francisco will enjoy travelling in one of ANA's two very special “green” Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The ANA Green Jet focuses on promoting sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions.
Two of ANA's fleet of 215 aircraft will sport special livery - with “Future Promise" adorned on the side. There are other features both inside and outside the aircraft that point to ANA's plan for a totally environmentally-friendly company.
Each aircraft features a special material - which has a "shark skin effect" with a riblet texture. ANA will study the decrease in air resistance & friction and CO2 emission reduction of the aircraft, as well as the material's durability and technology.
Inside the aircraft, ANA has introduced special in-flight lighting colours and background music that get passengers in the mood for the sustainable flight. Expect green hues and soothing piped music!
Special headrest covers made of vegan leather have been introduced. Made of “Ultrasuede”, they are produced from the apple juice residues from Japanese orchards.
ANA is launching a program which develops upcycled products from disused aircraft parts and old uniforms and also encourages passengers to contribute where they can.
ANA is Japan's largest airline and its CEO Shinichi Inoue said "Our goal is to create a more sustainable society, while helping our local communities and enhancing corporate value and we have dedicated this aircraft to help promote these efforts", he followed "Utilising the technological advances currently available and investing in new solutions, ANA is working hard to create a safe, efficient and sustainable operation."
