British Airways is testing a new digital navigational aid to streamline passenger experiences at Heathrow Airport.
The innovative tech displays maps of both Terminal 5 and Terminal 3, assisting passengers traveling via the airline's London base in finding their departure gates, as well as points of interest such as shops, lounges, and eateries. The novel wayfinding solution empowers customers to traverse the airport more effectively, saving time, and decreasing the likelihood of missing their flights.
The tool supplies precise directions and information about the airport's layout, ensuring a smoother passenger journey through London Heathrow. Customers can interact with the map, selecting areas of interest like shops, and receive information about the location, operational hours, and a summary of available products. Additionally, facilities such as restrooms, Lounges, seating spaces, and information points can be conveniently found.
For passengers with connecting flights, the system allows the input of their inbound and onward flight details. They will then receive detailed instructions, supported by an animated map, on how to proceed from the arrival gate, via flight connections, to the departure gate of their connecting flight.
The trial, launched in June, is open to all passengers traveling through London Heathrow, accessible via QR codes on digital screens at the airport or by visiting wayfinding.maps.ba.com. Links to the wayfinding system have also been shared with all passengers flying into London Heathrow and connecting from locations including New York JFK, Dubai, Mexico City, Atlanta, Dallas Fort Worth, and Houston.
British Airways has also introduced digital baggage receipts in the ba.com app, allowing passengers to have an easily accessible digital bag receipt besides the physical one provided at the airport. Customers at London Heathrow also receive notifications on the app when their luggage arrives at the baggage claim, including the specific carousel information, making their journey from touchdown in London to their onward connection even smoother.
