British Airways has confirmed that the impending move from New York’s JFK Terminal 8 from Terminal 7 is scheduled for incoming flights on November 17th, followed by the first outbound departure the next day. A two-week transitional period will follow with both terminals used by the British flag carrier.
The move comes following a multi-million-dollar investment in facilities at Terminal 8, which BA will share with transatlantic Oneworld partner American Airlines. The joint venture between the two airlines will see five new wide-body gates, additional wide-body hardstand parking locations and an upgraded baggage system.
Passengers will benefit from an enhanced pre-flight experience with a co-branded premium check-in area, concierge-style service for top-tier guests, and exclusive check-in space for Business Class passengers. Three new lounges will offer seating for up to 1,000 premium BA and American Airlines passengers.
The most exclusive lounge will feature a Champagne bar, a fireside lounge and a fully immersive à la carte dining room, replacing American’s Flagship First Dining. The adjacent new premium lounge will have sweeping airside views, and facilities will include a wine bar and cocktail lounge, buffet service and a library. A third lounge designated for eligible Business Class travellers will be repurposed from the existing American Flagship Lounge and Concourse B Admirals Club.
British Airways and American Airlines operate more flights between New York and London than any other partnership, with up to 14 peak departures per day.
