Emirates' Premium Economy passengers will now receive complimentary amenity kits.
These kits, crafted in collaboration with United for Wildlife, emphasise the critical status of eight of our planet's most at-risk species. The intention is to amplify the voice against illegal wildlife trade while promoting awareness about endangered species. Among these, the kit displays and bookmarks spotlight highly trafficked animals, including the green sea turtle, African elephant, blue macaw, gorilla, hammerhead shark, lion, pangolin, and black rhino.
Disturbing statistics shared by United for Wildlife underscore the severity of this issue. For instance, poachers kill roughly 100 elephants daily, pushing them towards potential extinction in the wild by 2025. From the 500,000 rhinos in the wild at the 20th century's dawn, only 30,000 remain today. Furthermore, pangolins hold the unfortunate title of being the most trafficked mammal on earth.
These unique amenity kits from Emirates are not just informative but environmentally-friendly. Made of washable kraft paper, they feature detailed artwork of the featured animals, printed using non-toxic soy ink. The kit contents are sustainable, with items crafted to minimize virgin plastic usage. For instance, the toothbrush blends wheat straw with plastic, and the socks and eyeshades derive from recycled plastic (rPET). Emirates will reintroduce earplugs into these kits later this year.
