flydubai - the low-cost sister airline of Emirates - could be flying to Australia within the next two years. Dependant on whether it starts to receive its order of 30 Boeing 787-900s, the Dubai-based airline says that London and Bangkok could also be on its flight schedules.
flydubai is owned by the Emirati government, codeshares with Emirates - and also boasts the Chairman and loyalty program in common.
Currently, flydubai's all-Boeing 737 fleet offers a Business Class seat - with passengers receiving a lie-flat on long and recliners on medium-range flights. The airline currently flies to Malaysia, India, Maldives, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, the Middle East and Africa.
The 787-900's will give the airline more distance and room to add - for instance - a premium economy cabin.
However, with Boeing's backlog increasing by the day, flydubai will not be scheduling Australia flights any day soon. Until then, passengers from the region can enjoy the delights of Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Aiways, with Riyadh Air set to take to arrive in the Antipodean skies from mid-2025.
flydubai has a network of more than 110 destinations served by a fleet of 80 aircraft. Although it is deemed a “low-cost airline”, its Business Class offerings are that of a “regular” airline flying premium cabins including - at selected airports - a lounge, priority check-in and fast track through security checks.
