Japan's flag carrier says it will debut its Airbus A350-1000s on the Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK route later this year. And its planning something special for its premium passengers.
The airline says, “ .. we are developing new cabin specifications for international flights to provide a new unprecedented experience for each and every one of our customers.” No details were forthcoming on what passengers can expect however.
Japan's largest airline has ordered 13 A350-1000s for its long-haul fleet and expects to take its first delivery this Summer before deploying it on the 13,156-kilometre Tokyo to New York route.
The A350-1000 typically seats between 350 to 410 passengers in a standard three-class configuration. JAL will quite possibly fly four cabins so that number will decrease.
The airline currently flies Boeing 777-300ERs on this route with over 140 passengers in economy, 40 in Premium Economy, 49 in Business Class and 8 in First Class. The airline plans to retire all its 777-300ERs by 2028.
Japan Airlines has also confirmed that it will move from Terminal 1 at JFK Airport to Terminal 8 at the end of May - home to oneworld partners, British Airways and American Airlines.
