The JFK-based airline JetBlue has this week completed the inaugural flight of its New York to London service. Using one its Airbus A321LR aircraft – the long-range variant of the A321neo – JetBlue has now broken into one of the most lucrative markets in the world – and it is creating a fare war between airlines that fly transatlantic services.
JetBlue aims to start a JFK to London Gatwick service in September with a Boston route pencilled in for 2022.
By using one of the most efficient passenger aircraft in the world and combining that with hugely competitive fares, JetBlue hopes to break the stranglehold that the big players – including British Airways, American Airline, Virgin and United – have on the transatlantic services. JetBlue is the sixth largest airline in the USA – flying to over 100 national and international routes.
JetBlue boasts 24 lie-flat Business Class suites in its Mint class cabins which rivals the Business Class offerings from its competitors (LINK HERE). With a price of just USD$1,979 – GBP999 – these will be highly attractive to the business community and the more discerning traveller.
COVID-19 is having a huge impact on all international flights and revenues generated by the airlines but JetBlue is hoping that by having the prized JFK to Heathrow route, class-beating fares, and excellent service, it will be a force to be reckoned with.
