Korean Air is set to expand its service offerings with the introduction of a new Premium Economy class as it welcomes new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet.
The flagship airline of South Korea, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, currently operates 11 Boeing 787-9s for long-haul flights and anticipates the addition of nine more of these, along with twenty of the larger 787-10s, in the near future.
The existing 787-9 Dreamliners from Korean Air are configured to accommodate 269 travellers, with 24 seats in a 1-2-1 arrangement for Business Class and the rest in economy.
Although the seating plan for the 787-10, which will feature the new Premium Economy section, has not yet been revealed, the airline has announced that this new cabin category is slated to launch next year. It will also feature the new Business Class seat that was announced last year.
In pursuit of modernising its aircraft fleet, Korean Air has also recently placed an additional order for 20 Airbus A321neo planes, taking its total A321neo orders to 50. The airline’s A321neo jets are single-aisle aircraft featuring a two-class configuration with 182 seats—eight in a lie-flat Business Class.
