Often voted the best small airport in the UK, London City is to undergo a £12 million overhaul to its departure lounge. The upgrade will see 30 per cent more seating, two new dining venues, expanded duty-free and retail space, increased washroom facilities and an upgrade to high-speed Wi-Fi.
The improvement works will be completed in phases, with final renovations planned for completion by Summer 2023. New facilities will open before old ones close down, ensuring passengers experience a seamless transition.
Seating capacity will be increased to 950 passengers.
Lagardère Travel Retail is launching an Aelia Duty-Free Store that will include an ‘It’s London’ boutique featuring the best local producers and distilleries on a rotating basis. Other premium products include luxury Australian cosmetics brand Aesop and Anglo-French fragrance giant Creed.
A new ‘Juniper’ restaurant will replace the existing ‘City Bar & Grill’ in Spring 2023, increasing capacity by 80 covers and offering passengers an enhanced level of service. A stylish ‘Champagne Cave’ will allow passengers to purchase locally crafted beers and an extended range of Champagnes.
Food travel experts SSP will open a new restaurant brand to replace the ‘Cabin Bar’ and offer a new menu, greater levels of service and capacity for an extra 20 covers. The recently opened ‘Soul & Grain’ eatery is already providing customers on the go with fresh, balanced food choices alongside artisan coffee.
The airport’s washroom and toilet facilities will see an upgrade that includes a new facility at the airport’s west pier, improvements to existing facilities at international arrivals and twice the facilities after security.
London City Airport offers flights from airlines including British Airways, KLM, Alitalia, Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines. Due to its short runway, it only serves routes to European destinations. It is also just 20 minutes by taxi to the heart of the City of London and 30 minutes by underground to central Mayfair.
