Lufthansa has announced that its eight Airbus A380s will not feature the new Allegris Business Class suite - instead opting for an “off the shelf seat”.
An annoucement is due on the actual seat that will be retrofitted into the superjumbos - and it's not expected that First Class or Premium Economy on the A380s will be changed at all - except feature a new entertainment system.
When “Lufthansa Allegris” was announced in 2017, passengers were promised a new long haul experience in all cabins across airlines in the group which includes SWISS, Austrian Airlines and of course Lufthansa. In Business Class, travellers could choose between six seat options, depending on whether they want an extra-long bed measuring 2.20 metres, extra space and work area, a seat with a baby bassinet, or simply an exclusive seat directly by the window. A double seat, in which the centre console can be retracted to transform it into a reclining surface for two, was also available.
Allegris Business Class suites will be installed into all new Airbus and Boeing deliveries - along with being retrofitted to the current A350s, Boeing 787s ands Boeing 747-8 jets. On the latter, Lufthansa plans to install the Allegris only on the lower deck and keeping the old seat on the upper deck.
Lufthansa plans to bring back its eight A380s by 2025. Pre-pandemic, there were 14 - six have been since sold.
