The Lufthansa Group says that it's the world's first airline group to offer a new ticket for more climate-friendly flying - known as The Green Fares.
The Green Fares will make it possible to fly more sustainably as the new fares already include offsetting of flight-related CO₂ emissions. This is achieved by using 20 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and 80 percent by contributing to high-quality climate protection projects.
The Green Fares also offer additional status miles and a free rebooking option. In Business Class, the price of the “business green” fare is the same as “business flex”. The green fare includes carbon offsets - 20% bonus award miles and 20% status miles - with no possible refund - while the flex fare allows for full refund and allows passenger to move to an earlier flight that day - where available.
The new Green Fares will be offered by Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SWISS, Edelweiss, Eurowings Discover and Air Dolomiti on more than 730,000 flights per year within Europe and to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The new product for more sustainable flying now adds another pillar to the Lufthansa Group's fare structure, which has been in place since 2015.
The Lufthansa Group has set itself climate protection goals and aims to achieve a neutral CO₂ balance by 2050. Already by 2030, the Lufthansa Group wants to halve its net CO₂ emissions compared to 2019 through reduction and compensation measures.
