Qantas has confirmed that plans to fly nonstop - part of its ambitious Project Sunrise - from Australia to the USA and Europe in 2026 is still on track.
Flight times from Sydney to London or New York will take up to 22 hours and the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft that the airline will use, needs a third fuel tank. Delays with the manufacturer - supply chain issues - and with the relevant certification bodies had thrown doubt on the 2026 launch date.
However, Qantas has now confirmed that the Civil Aviation Safety Authority has approved the addition of the third tank and Project Sunrise is once again, on the 2026 runway!
In 2022, Qantas ordered a dozen A350-1000s which will feature 238 new seats - including 52 Business Class Suites, 6 First Class Suites and 40 seats in Premium Economy.
