SAS is set to divorce Star Alliance on 31st August and transition into life with SkyTeam on 1st September. However, no set date has been given by the Scandinavian carrier for when it will become a fully-fledged member of SkyTeam.
From 1st September, the airline states that "SAS EuroBonus members will enjoy loyalty benefits similar to those offered today with Star Alliance airlines with most of SkyTeam’s airlines” furthering that EuroBonus members will earn Basic points when flying on “most SkyTeam airlines”.
A huge restructuring of SAS has seen Air France-KLM - founder member of SkyTeam - take a stake in SAS.
SAS has been working for the the past six months on the transition. EuroBonus Silver members will enjoy benefits such as extra baggage allowance and priority check-in with most SkyTeam airlines, while EuroBonus Gold and Diamond members will enjoy benefits such as lounge access, fast track and priority boarding.
SAS is unable to confirm fully which SkyTeam airlines it has definite agreements with using the term “most” in a recently published press release.
EuroBonus members will have until 8th September to claim missing points for flights on Star Alliance airlines that they have completed until 31st August.
SAS said that more information would be shared on the transition “in the coming weeks and months”.
