After a 34-year hiatus, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced plans to resume flights between Copenhagen and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport from February 9, 2023.
The airline’s Copenhagen hub already connects passengers to New York via the Newark service, alongside SAS flights from Oslo and Stockholm. But now, the Star Alliance carrier will compete directly with Skyteam member Delta for the JFK route.
The JFK service will commence with five weekly departures from Copenhagen into JFK Terminal 7, with daily flights planned for the summer of 2023.
Starting on Thursday, February 9, flight SK919 will depart from Copenhagen at 6.25 p.m. arriving in JFK at 9.30 p.m. Flights will run each Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday using Airbus A321LR aircraft with 157 seats and 22 lie-flat beds in Business Class.
The return SK920 flights operating on the same days will depart JFK at 11 p.m., arriving at Copenhagen at 12.55 p.m. the next day.
As the service increases to daily summer routes in 2023, the airline will use Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity of 262 seats and 32 lie-flat beds in Business Class on flights departing Copenhagen at 7.20 p.m. and arriving at JFK at 10 p.m.
Return flights will leave JFK at 11.55 p.m. and arrive in Copenhagen at 1.45 p.m. the next day.
As the Scandinavian demand for the US market continues, SAS is set to operate around 130 departures to its 12 US routes each week this winter.
