Lufthansa Cancels Berlin To New York Service

The route was established by Lufthansa after local rivals AirBerlin went into administration in October 2017. It saw an Airbus A330 fly between Berlin Tegel Airport and JFK five-times weekly. However, the flight times were too inconvenient for the airline to fill planes and post a profit, said Chief Executive Officer Carsten Spohr. Lufthansa introduced the JFK service following the collapse of local rival AirBerlin last year, serving the route five times weekly with an Airbus SE A330 wide-body jet. Lufthansa considered switching the New York route to Lufthansa’s budget Eurowings subsidiary but was unsuccessful in securing worthwhile landing slots.
