The hotel group Edwardian Hotels is investing over £300 million in their new flagship hotel The Londoner, which, according to hotel group, will be the world’s first super boutique hotel.

The hotel is located right in the heart of London’s West End district, in the world-famous Leicester Square neighbourhood, and is scheduled to open by the end of 2020.

This 5-star hotel, with its 350 rooms, 35 suites and a tower penthouse will be significantly larger than what is normal for a typical boutique hotel. Due to restrictions, six storeys will be below ground level, of which the lowest floor is 30 metres below ground, making this one of the world’s deepest buildings.

It is intended that the hotel will set a new standard for today’s luxury hotels, through its reflection of city life, commitment to sustainability, appreciation of the local culture which is reflected in their architecture and design, restaurant outlets, facilities and service. The hotel will have, among many other, six restaurant concepts – which includes a bar and a tavern, modern Japanese lounge bar with a rooftop terrace and firepit – plus an underground spa, two cinemas, meeting rooms and a ballroom with capacity for over 1000 people.

The interior has been crafted by the world-renowned designer, Yabu Pushelberg, who is also behind the interior of the Four Season hotels in Manhattan, New York. The hotel is intended to fit in with the existing environment. The mix of a charming intelligence with British feeling, thoughtfully designed common areas, dining spaces and hotel rooms will enhance the motions of guests’ everyday life. The interior is minimal and has a cohesive neutral palette.

All hotel rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, curated artworks and are equipped with the latest technology, including ultra-fast Wi-Fi. The Londoner is a member of the prestigious Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection. Hotel room rates will start from £500 per night for a standard room. The penthouse costs up to £10,000 a night. The hotel is scheduled to open by the end of 2020.
