Another airline has now moved into terminal 2 at London Heathrow, which means there is also a new lounge. This time it is Air Canada, who, at the beginning of the week, opened its new Maple Leaf lounge in terminal 2. Coming in the Autumn will be another potential alternative for passengers travelling with SAS from Heathrow. The new lounge is located in the satellite pier, which was formally known as terminal 2B. BAA and Star Alliance's idea is that the satellite pier, 2B, will be mainly used for intercontinental flights, while the main terminal building, 2A, be used mostly for European flights. It is, however, practical to go back and forth between the two buildings via an underground corridor, but it hardly makes sense unless you have plenty of time. The lounge is furnished with a Canadian design which is modern, inspiring, and creates a place where travellers can relax, rest, and recharge before their flight. The design firm, Dialogue 38, designed the lounge. This is the same design firm that designed the new Air Canada lounge at Frankfurt Airport. The lounge has an area of 700 square metres and is divided into several different sections. For those who want something to eat, there is a food station where you can order different meals which are prepared to order by a chef. Next door there is a bar, with the Canadian beer Molson on tap, along with a wide selection of wines, beers and spirits. There is also a bistro area where you can pick up cold and hot dishes for yourself. The Quiet Zone has three reclining chairs with personal TV screens, a USB port, and Sony noise cancelling headphones. If you want to take a shower, this is also possible. The shower rooms are equipped with rain showers that also have soothing music built-in. If you want to work in the lounge, there is a business centre with Dell computers, colour printers, and scanners. There is free WiFi throughout the lounge. The lounge is decorated with Canadian art and products from 2Loons in Toronto, as well as glass from Accura Glass in Ontario and lighting from Frank Gehry. London Heathrow is Air Canada's international hub outside Canada, with 77 flights every week. Eight destinations are served from Heathrow. The lounge is open daily between 6am and 10pm.
