Amsterdam Schiphol Airport introduce an entirely new approach to security control

Schiphol Airport outside Amsterdam are currently carrying out major changes to the terminal structure, and especially security control. In practical terms, this means that no one should have to pass through security control twice if they arrive from a country with the EU's security level, the same level as at Schiphol. To achieve this, central security checks will be introduced for all who start their journey in Amsterdam (even when travelling to destinations outside the Schengen), and there will be a new transfer security control for passengers arriving from destinations outside the EU/Schengen. If you are arriving from a country within the EU (or a country that has the same level of safety as the EU) and have a connecting flight at Schiphol, you will be led directly to one of the airport's transit areas. If you are arriving from a country with a lower safety level, you will be led to a new floor in the terminal building (2nd floor) and on to a transfer security screening before entering the transit hall. If you are travelling with Delta to the US, you should go to the desk at the start of the D-pier or E-pier for I.D and document control, after which you will be informed which gate you should go to. The new arrangements will also mean that gates will open up, giving more space and more seating at the gates. The new security controls will be introduced on June 3, 2015.
