This week was the grand opening of Brussels Airlines' new lounge, ‘The Loft’, at Brussels Airport. The lounge has been closed for several months for renovation and is reopening as a new lounge with a completely new design

. The lounge is located in the A-pier, which is used for all Schengen departures, and access is available to passengers travelling with Brussels Airlines or Star Alliance in business class, or those who hold a Star Alliance Gold Card. The Loft is four times larger than the old lounge, with a total area of 1240 square metres, and the extra space is needed as last year more than 300,000 guests visited the lounge and each stayed for an average of 74 minutes. The new concept is built around four key words - comfort, technology, design and Belgian gastronomy. The design has been developed in collaboration with several leading Belgian designers. The lounge consists of eight sections which all perform their own specific function. Brussels Airlines have also entered into a partnership with Microsoft and Designit, who have developed a new digital experience in The Loft which includes the opportunity to borrow a Surface Pro 3. Via the Surface Pro 3 guests have access to a kind of digital lounge assistant app called ‘Connected Lounge’, where, for example, one can book a shower room and see the availability of rest rooms or meeting rooms. It also shows the flight status and provides the option to watch movies and television shows during your visit to the lounge. If you have a laptop or tablet you must download the app ‘Connected Lounge’ onto your device. The catering in the lounge is provided by Autogrill chefs, and during the day a healthy breakfast, salads, snacks, and various pies are all on offer. In addition, there are Belgian waffles, rice pudding, apple pie, and chocolate mousse. The Belgian theme is also present in the variety of beer on offer, with Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Leffe Brown, and Blonde all available . The coffee comes from JAVA and there are also a number of Belgian cheeses. In the living room, ‘the living zone’, there are different Belgian cartoon characters, for example, Tintin, welcoming guests. There is also a lounge host, ‘Maitre de Lounge’, working in the lounge. The host has butler training and is on hand to assist guests during their stay. In the lounge are also showers with LED lights and built-in music, and for those who wish to relax, there is a relaxation area with beds. The lounge also has meeting rooms and workplaces. The meeting rooms can be booked free of charge by guests with Miles & More Senator or Hon Circle status.
