On January 14, 2016, Air France is offering a unique experience on board a tribute flight over France and its famous landmarks.

More than 45 years after the first flight from Paris to New York by the B747, also known as the Jumbo Jet, Air France will celebrate the final flight of this legendary aircraft. It is worth noting that the maiden flight of Air France’s first Airbus 380 was also to New York. Flight AF747 will take off at 11:30am from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, followed by a Business Class lunch and champagne for all on board, and inflight commentary that will include a tour of France’s history and landmarks. Upon arrival at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, passengers of flight AF747 will be invited to explore the Company’s aircraft maintenance workshops and take part in a toast at the foot of the aircraft. One of the first airlines to operate the B747, Air France made it the flagship of its long-haul fleet: New York, Montreal, the French West Indies, Reunion, Asia ... most of the Air France's destinations have been served by the Jumbo. In the cabin, Air France started innovating from the early seventies and changed its DNA to better serve its customers. The role of chief purser was created to coordinate the service and attention paid to customers. In-flight cuisine was of great importance, with menus designed by great French chefs Paul Bocuse, Gaston Lenôtre and Pierre Troisgros, who had exclusive partnerships with Air France. Finally, the cabin interior was designed by Pierre Gautier-Delaye, who paid particular attention to the comfort of the seat cushions and seatbacks.

As the B747 has been taken out of service, Air France’s fleet of 65 Boeing 777s have replaced them. These are equipped, or soon will be, with Air France's new long-haul cabins, which includes

designer suites in the La Première cabin.

 S

eats in Premium Economy and Economy have also been redesigned for optimal comfort. To celebrate the event and this chapter of Air France’s history, the airline has launched a new website:

airfrancelasaga.com

From Monday, December 7, you can book your ticket on board flight AF747 by calling 01 56 93 70 28 (+33 1 56 93 70 28 from outside France) from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The fare is fixed at €220 (£160) for the entire cabin. You can also follow the event on Twitter with #AF747
