An Eco-Luxury Hotel Overflowing With Plants Planned For Paris

With plants spilling out between overlapping wooden panels that make up its facade, “1 Hotel Paris” will be located in Paris’ Rive Gauche neighbourhood on the bank of the River Seine. The sustainable building is hoped to become a landmark as well as a ‘green lung’ for the neighbourhood.

The overlapping wooden panels will be arranged in an inconsistent manner so that the shape of the building will remain “blurred” to the eye. Kengo Kuma & Associates comment that the design strategy is to develop a sculptural form that looks as if it has been shaped by natural erosion and allows light to reach the avenue below.

The warm materiality of the wood will be integrated with metal panels to provides a soft reflection. The designers also said that the building will transform with the shifting light throughout.

The outdoors theme is present throughout the hotel, with large open space and plenty of natural light complementing the stylish architectural interior.

Resembling more a forest than a city, the hotel will provide guests with a slice of nature in the French capital. Minimalist rooms, many with private balconies, will overlook a huge manicured garden, while a rooftop terrace will offer a verdant sanctuary complete with full-size trees and an abundance of plants.

Set to open in 2022, the property will also be home to a sports facility, business centre, a youth hostel, performance bar and restaurant, and a co-working space.
