Finnair has decided to install wireless internet on board the bulk of its fleet. The installation will include long-haul aircraft as well as all Airbus short-haul aircraft. The project is costing 30 million euros.

Long-haul aircraft, including the Airbus A330 and Airbus A350, will receive the upgrade, but the Airbus A340 will not as these will be gradually phased out when Finnair get delivery of its new Airbus A350. In short, all Airbus aircraft (A319 / A320 / A321) will receive the upgrade. This will include the most important European routes, especially those with a longer flight time. The first aircraft to be equipped with wireless internet will be the first Airbus A350 delivered by Airbus in the autumn of 2015. During 2016, installation will begin on the current Airbus A330s and European flights. The project is expected to be completed by 2018. - Investment enables us to offer a range of new services to our customers, ranging from entertainment to on-board sales, says Pekka Vauramo, CEO of Finnair, in a statement.
