Since it opened as a hotel in 1896, the San Domenico Palace has offered its guests the finest of everything – from cuisine to service and facilities to wine.

The San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel will open with 111 rooms and suites, the 2 Michelin-starred Principe Cerami restaurant, a 7-treatment room spa, infinity pool terrace and Turkish bath. There are new dining options including Anciovi, a fabulous poolside restaurant, and Rosso, the all-day-dining venue with a spectacular terrace.

The hotel is situated in the hilltop town of Taormina, on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean’s second largest island, overlooking the Bay of Taormina and Ionian Sea.

Sicily is renowned for its Greek temples and theatres – many just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel and of course, Mount Etna, Europe’s biggest active volcano which is visible clearly from many of the hotel’s balconies and terraces.

The original rooms are converted monastic cells, but some feature private terraces – complete with those stunning views and the lucky few, plunge pools.

century Dominican monastery, a Grand Hotel Wing was added to the property in 1896 turning it into a palazzo for the well-travelled. DH Lawrence, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren were just some Palace’s more famous guests.

Other Taormina highlights include Isola Bella (beautiful island) – a small nature reserve, Teatro Antico di Taormina (theatre), the Corvaja Palace and the Duomo di Taormina (a stunning Catholic church).

San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel has undergone a major renovation and is set to become one of the most romantic luxury getaways in Europe.
