Early this morning, a group of at least 12 climate change activists gained access to Heathrow’s north runway to conduct a protest.

The protestors are part of Plane Stupid, an activist group who are against a proposed plan for expansion at the airport which gained momentum last week when a new runway at Heathrow was recommended.

A spokesman for the group said the protestors cut through a fence and accessed the runway at 3.30am. The runway was closed until 6.20am. Delays are ongoing. A recent statement from Heathrow reads, “Both runways remain open with some delays due to protest activity. Please check your flight status before travelling to the airport - we are sorry for the disruption to passengers. Our priority remains to ensure the safe running of the airport.“
