Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) this week announced the purchase of hotel chain Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants with the aim to create the world's largest hotel chain of boutique hotels. The deal is worth $430 million, approximately £277 million. Kimpton currently has 62 hotels in the USA, with another 16 hotels in the pipeline. They also operate 71 restaurants and bars. IHG see the acquisition as an excellent complement to IHG's existing brands, Hotel Indigo and EVEN Hotels, which together with Kimpton means IHG will operate over 200 boutique and lifestyle hotels in 19 countries.
