IHG to open luxury hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced the signing of InterContinental Sofia, the luxury brand’s debut in Bulgaria.

The hotel, which will operate under a management agreement with InterHotel Grand - Hotel Sofia AD, will undergo a refurbishment before opening in 2017 as a 182-room InterContinental hotel. The hotel will feature seven meeting rooms and five boardrooms, a lobby bar, a spa and fitness centre, as well as a roof top restaurant overlooking the main square. The hotel is located near to the Central Railway Station Sofia, a 20-minute drive away from Sofia’s International Airport. It overlooks the Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and is close to historical Sofia’s main attractions, including the National Theatre, as well as local shops, boutiques and restaurants. Robert Shepherd, Chief Development Officer, Europe, IHG said: “We’re delighted to have signed our first InterContinental Hotel in Bulgaria, in the very heart of Sofia’s city centre.  The signing of this hotel demonstrates the momentum of our iconic luxury brand in key international cities and resorts.
