Inauguration of the world's first Airbus A350 with Qatar Airways in Doha - including impressive light show

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker is notorious for being meticulous when it comes to details, which is why delivery of the first Airbus A350 was delayed by a week when some minor errors were detected. Two days before Christmas, the keys were formerly handed over at Airbus’ base in Toulouse, and on January 8th there was a spectacular inauguration ceremony to mark delivery of the world’s first Airbus A350 aircraft to Qatar Airways in Doha. We were on site in Doha to watch the ceremony. The opening ceremony took place at Doha's old airport, right next to the old premium terminal which is still in place. The interior had been redecorated in honour of the celebrations. On site were, among others, five ministers (including Qatar's Prime Minister), a number of VIP guests, media, and, of course, the staff from Qatar Airways who will work on board the new aircraft. After a meet and greet in the premium terminal, all participants were welcomed airside where a large part of the apron was converted into a party area. A number of tables were installed, as well as a large stage and big screens. After a welcome speech by Qatar Airways' CEO, Akbar Al Baker, we were treated to acrobatics and dancing on stage in front of fitting videos about Airbus and Qatar Airways and the journey that led to the delivery of the first Airbus A350. There was also a virtual Airbus A350 on the stage. Afterwards, the Prime Minister pulled a lever and the screens parted to reveal an impressive light show being projected on to an Airbus A350 aircraft which had been parked behind the stage the whole time. The show ended with a number of Qatar Airways employees, from management, the cockpit, the cabin, and the ground, all arriving on the stage. Thus, the aircraft was formally inaugurated.
