The London Underground is the oldest subway system in the world and recently celebrated 150 years of existence. To coincide with this, several new projects are underway to modernise and upgrade the network. To further increase customer satisfaction, TfL, Transport for London, has introduced travel time guarantees for the Tube, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and commuter trains in Greater London. This means if your Tube is 15 minutes or more late, you are entitled to your money back. The guarantee is not quite as extensive as, for example, in Stockholm, where even taxi fares are paid after major delays, but the full ticket price of your journey is reimbursed. The money back guarantee comes into effect after a delay of 15 minutes on the Underground and DLR, and after 30 minutes on other local and commuter trains. The guarantee does not apply to security incidents, illness and delays caused by weather. To get the refund you fill in a form on
e. The money is normally paid back within a week.
