From the beginning of this month, Lufthansa’s business class passengers on long-haul flights have enjoyed “Restaurant Service”, a brand new meal service concept intended to resemble service one might receive at a top restaurant.
The new service sees flight attendants welcome passengers by name, then take orders and set tables with ceramic crockery. Meal trays and trolleys have been replaced by service plates, and meals are served directly from the galley.

The service was more widely launched on A380 services to Houston, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Miami, Delhi, New York (JFK), Beijing, San Francisco, Shanghai, Seoul and Singapore on 1st August. The service is due to be implemented on Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 flights from Frankfurt on 1st October, followed by the Airbus A340 fleet from Frankfurt and Munich to Asia and the Middle East on 25th October. Special training for around 4500 flight attendants began in May. The concept has been positively received by passengers on-board nearly 130 test flights, much to the pleasure of Lufhansa who see Restaurant Service as “another important step towards becoming the first five-star airline in the Western hemisphere.”
