London's Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London is currently undergoing a huge renovation job, throughout which the 5-star hotel is remaining open. The comprehensive upgrade started last September and is seeing the hotel updated in stages until completion in mid-2018. With the first phase of the upgrade now complete, the park-side hotel has unveiled 95 glamourous new rooms and suites.
Along with the stunning new accommodations, the hotel's entrance, main lobby and reception lounge have been reconfigured and redesigned to maximise natural daylight, while the building’s iconic façade has been revitalised.
Internationally renowned designer Joyce Wang is the creative impetus behind the property’s overall design concept, taking inspiration from the building’s Edwardian heritage, the hotel’s peaceful park-side location, and the glamour of the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel. Art deco-inspired features include carefully curated artworks and custom-designed furniture.
The stunning new guest rooms are delightfully light and glamourous. Each has a unique and individual layout, featuring alcoves, warm grey panelled walls and hand-gilded mirror artwork. Rooms overlook fashionable Knightsbridge or the idyllic inner courtyard with its collection native and exotic plants.
Beds feature leather-tufted headboards, large leather-topped writing desks, rugs and wildlife embellishments. All rooms also come with generous wardrobe space, a Bower and Wilkins music player, Nespresso coffee machine, and a pillow menu.
Suites have their own elegant hallway entrance, a spacious and comfortable bedroom with separate walk-in closet, a beautifully furnished living area with a velvet-upholstered sofa, wing-back reading chairs and a leather-topped writing desk, and marble bathrooms with walk-in showers with stand-alone baths The living room’s centrepiece is a striking gold and crackled glass custom-made acorn chandelier.
Knightsbridge Suites also come with a curated library of hand-picked books by renowned Mayfair publishers, Heywood Hill, for guests to enjoy during their stay.
The second phase of the renovation will see the complete restoration of all guest rooms and suites facing the park. In addition, two new luxurious and expansive penthouse suites, with spacious private terraces offering extensive views of London’s skyline and the peaceful park, will be added.
