The fact that travel will increase is not doubted my many, and by 2030 it is estimated that 1.8 billion people will travel internationally every year, for a variety of reasons. The technology company Amadeus, together with Future Foundation, looked at different travel behaviours and how these will evolve over the next 15 years. The report is based on interviews with futurists, travel experts and travellers worldwide. Based on the results, they identified six different passenger groups. The various groups are psychographic rather than demographic.

Social capitalists

will design their holidays almost exclusively by recommendations and online reviews by similar travellers. They will expect to be able to book their travel via social networks, but also to use these platforms to complain, give feedback and negotiate prices.

Cultural Purists

will regard holidays as an opportunity to immerse themselves in alien cultures - even if it means an uncomfortable experience. This group base the value of their holiday in how authentic the experience is.

Ethical Travellers

will make travel plans based on moral grounds, such as reducing carbon emissions or improving other people's living conditions. This group often improvises when it comes to trips and will often combine them with an element of volunteering.

Simplicity Searchers

will prefer package offers laid out in front of them as they try to avoid having to deal with too many details of the trip. For this group, the holiday is a rare chance to pamper yourself without having to think about the practical.

Obligation Meeters

have a clear purpose of their trip, whether it is a business or a private trip. As this group have limited time and budget, they will want to use technical solutions based on smart algorithms to make the trip smooth and hassle free.

Reward Hunters

are interested in epicurean travel. Many of them yearn for experiences that convey a premium feel as a reward for their stressful working life. These travellers are health conscious, have money and want to be effective in all areas of their lives. The full report is entitled, "Future Traveller Tribes 2030: Understanding Tomorrow's traveler".
