While celebrating the first anniversary of its low-cost, long-haul flights between the UK and America, Norwegian announced a new transatlantic route, London Gatwick to Boston.

Norwegian first departed from the UK to America one year ago, in July 2014, and has since seen over 200,000 passengers make the trip over the Atlantic for as little as £179. The new route is in response to an increase in demand, Norwegian consistently have a load factor of over 90% on their departures to New York, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale. Norwegian will also introduce a daily connection between London Gatwick and New York (JFK) from October, and new routes to Puerto Rico from November 2015 and Boston from May 2016. The new Boston route will be Gatwick’s only direct service to Boston and will go on sale later this year.

Bjorn Kjos

, Chief Executive of Norwegian, said: "This is an exciting time for Norwegian as we celebrate our first successful year of low-cost, long-haul flights and prepare for our busiest ever summer in the UK. Over 200,000 passengers have now chosen to fly transatlantic with Norwegian, and with additional Dreamliners set to be based at Gatwick next year we can add further exciting destinations such as Boston." also recently revealed that Norwegian would delay ordering more Boeing 787 Dreamliners until it gets approval from the US Department of Transportation. The orders are part of Norwegian’s planned expansion of its long-haul network. Norwegian hoped to register a subsidiary in Ireland but have been met by some opposition from a number of US airlines who say Norwegian are attempting to dodge stricter labour laws in its own country. The airline has since unveiled plans to register in the UK instead.
