Philippine Airlines has made an order with Airbus for six A350-900s, with the option for another six.
The news was announced yesterday at the Singapore Airshow by Jaime J. Bautista, President & COO of Philippine Airlines. He said: “After a thorough commercial and technical evaluation, the A350 came out on top in meeting our demanding requirements. With the A350, we will be flying the world‘s most modern airliner, bringing greatly enhanced efficiency and superior passenger comfort. The A350’s range capability has been an important factor in our decision, enabling us to offer non-stop service on all our premium long haul routes.” Configured in a three-class layout, the new A350s will allow Philippine Airlines to operate non-stop flights from Manila to the US west coast and New York, as well as on services to new destinations in Europe. PAL’s current service between Manila and New York stops over in Vancouver. The A350 XWB - the newest member of the Airbus widebody family - provides a 25 percent reduction in fuel burn and emissions, as well as significantly lower maintenance costs. It is one of the most successful widebody aircraft ever, with a recorded 777 firm orders from 41 customers worldwide. Airbus President & CEO Fabrice Brégier commented: “We are pleased to welcome Philippine Airlines as the latest airline to select the all-new A350 XWB. The A350 XWB has set new standards, combining extra-long range capability with the lowest operating costs of any aircraft in the larger twin aisle category. Passengers flying with Philippine Airlines can look forward to the new levels of comfort offered by the aircraft, with a wider and quieter cabin, and more personal space for all.”
Singapore Airlines also announced it will increase frequency on its route between Manila and London Heathrow from five-times weeky to daily. From June 28, Flight PR721 will depart London Heathrow daily at 10.50, arriving in Manila at 19.50 the next day. In the opposite direction, flight PR720 will leave the Philippines at 13.20, arriving in London at 21.00. Commenting on the new flights, Jaime J Bautista said, “Having daily flights will provide passengers taking the Manila - London route the flexibility to choose the schedule most suitable to their travel plans. The direct service to London Heathrow makes the journey most convenient and relaxing.”
