It has been 59 years since last time she did it, and there have been plenty of questions surrounding it. Will the person to cut the ribbon for "The Queen's Terminal" be Queen Elizabeth yet again? The answer came today and it will indeed be the Queen and Prince Philip who reinaugurate terminal 2, the terminal which was originally named after her majesty.
Terminal 2 was originally inaugurated in 1955, and was given the name The Queen's Terminal. In the year 2009, the old terminal was torn down in order to open up space for a brand new terminal building and a satellite pier. Terminal 2 will become home for all Star Alliance airlines trafficking Heathrow. The official inauguration will take place on June 23. Today also saw the inauguration of "Slipstream", Europe's largest permanent sculpture which is 70 metres long and 77 tonnes heavy, created by the famous sculptor Richard Wilson.
