Last Wednesday saw the opening of Six Senses Douro Valley in the famous wine region of Portugal, becoming the first Six Senses spa in Europe.
The 20 acre resort contains 57 guest rooms, suites and villas. New York based Clodagh Design is responsible for the light greys and sandy tones in the nicely designed and eco-friendly rooms.
Six Senses Douro Valley Quinta Deluxe Room The Vale d’Abraão Open Kitchen and Dining Room offers breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casual environment with both terrace and enclosed spaces. There will be another dining venue focused on more fanciful evening dining experiences, and two bars open from late afternoon. Impressively, the resort has its own dedicated wine cellar housing local vintages. Additionally, "The Wine Library" offers a menu of tapas, cheese, smoked hams and local sausage to go with a glass of wine and a book. Six Senses Douro Valley is located 142 km (88 miles) from Porto International Airport and measures over 24,000 square feet. It has 10 treatment rooms, heated in-door swimming pool, steam room, Sauna and Laconium. The spa menu includes locally-inspired, grape-based treatments. There is also an outdoor swimming pool that boasts panoramic views of the Douro Valley.
