The New Super-Stretched Jets Taking To The Skies This Year

Both Airbus and Boeing will be launching their new super-stretched jets this year. But what can we expect from them when they take to the skies?

Airbus A360-1000

First to be released will be the Airbus A350-1000. Global launch customer Qatar Airways, who will take delivery of their first this month, recently conducted a photo-shoot flight of the aircraft alongside the smaller A350-900 (see below).

The Qatari flag carrier has ordered 37 of the stretched, Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97-powered version of the A350.

The A350-1000 is 7m longer than the -900, increasing the potential seat count by 40 passengers to a total of 366.

While Airbus states the aircraft has room for 366 passengers in a standard three-class configuration, Qatar Airways will have just 327 seats across two cabins - 46 Qsuites in business class and 281 seats in economy.

Boeing 787-10

The 787-10 Dreamliner is the newest and longest member of the fuel-efficient 787 family. It is planned to take off for the first time in March, with Singapore Airlines the launch customer. United Airlines, Emirates and British Airways also have the aircraft on order.

The stretched aircraft is slated by Boeing to hold up to 330 passengers over two cabins. It is currently unknown, however, how many seats or which configuration Singapore Airlines will use.

The B787-10 will feature Singapore Airlines’ new pod-like business class seat.
