The British airline, Thomson Airways, recently presented their vision for the airline over the next five years. It includes a number of changes to the on-board travel experience, with new aircraft, more long-haul destinations, and new innovative concepts on the aircraft. Among other things, they plan to introduce family booths and duo-seats where the middle seat is replaced by a table for champagne, creating a brand new experience. David Burling, Managing Director of TUI UK and Ireland, explains: - “Our airline business has traditionally been categorised in the charter sector which is often perceived as the poor relation to scheduled and, in reality, bears little resemblance to the Thomson Airways experience today. Our overall goal is to make travel experiences special and, as the flight marks both the start and end of the holiday, we see it as an integral part of the whole holiday experience.”

Family booths

will be in the back of the aircraft, and will have seats for four to six people situated around a large table. The product is designed for larger families who are travelling to the First Choice Holiday Village or the Thomson Family Resort.

Duo-seats

will consist of three seats across with the middle seat being replaced by a table for champagne. The product will also include electrical sockets and mood lighting with effects. The idea is to create a more spacious and luxurious start to the holiday. In Premium Class, on long flights, there will also be a so-called Beach Snack Bar with drinks and snacks. Thomson Airways has also ordered 2 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 47 Boeing 737 MAXs, which are expected to be delivered around 2020.
