Unique Luxury Hotel Has Low-Key Opening In London

This week saw the low-key opening of a stylish new luxury boutique hotel in the heart of London. The Mandrake, located on Newman Street (off Oxford Street), offers an intimate atmosphere and some of the most eclectic and vibrant interiors the city has seen for some time.

Set within the exclusive Fitzrovia neighbourhood, walking distance from Soho and Regents Park, the uniquely designed hotel features a central courtyard surrounded by hanging gardens, a restaurant from the team behind Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Serge et le Phoque, and a surreal design throughout.

With inspiration taken from the

mystical

mandrake plant, a common Mediterranean species, the 34-room hotel is Beirut-born entrepreneur Rami Fustok’s first hotel venture.

The interiors of the hotel combine the strange and beautiful, with a number of extraordinary artworks from renowned artists such as Francesco Clemente, Jonas Burgert and Peter-John de Villiers adoring the walls.

Intriguing soundscapes from French sound engineer Pierre-Arnaud Alunn, specially designed scents from Azzi Glasser, and a 30-candle chandelier by Lara Bohinc produces a truly unique - and quite surreal - ambience within the hotel.

20% of the hotel is open air spaces with botanical themes, including a glasshouse filled with medicinal plants on the first-floor terrace.

The restaurant is from Charles Pelletier and Fred Peneau, the formidable French duo behind Serge et le Phoque. This will be their first London venture, offering refined dining and modern French cuisine. The 80-cover restaurant will also feature a 16-person private dining room.

Guests will also be able to enjoy plant-based cocktails and hand-selected wines in the Waeska Bar & Lounge.

Included in the 34 rooms are three luxury suites and a “dramatic” penthouse. The rooms are set across four floors, rising up from the striking central courtyard surrounded by hanging gardens of jasmine and passion flower.

According to Fustok, The Mandrake will remain independently owned and managed in order to set it apart from its competitors.

He says, “We don’t want our guests to feel like just another item, we don’t want superficial experiences.”

We at BusinessClass sure can’t wait to experience The Mandrake for ourselves. What about you?
