The first of 19 Dreamliners ordered by Vietnam Airlines has been delivered to the Southeast Asian carrier. The B787-9 landed at Hanoi Nội Bài International Airport on August 2 and is currently in domestic operation between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with plans to be deployed on Vietnam Airlines’ routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to London Heathrow in early September. The exact date is yet to be confirmed.

The delivery of the Dreamliner B787-9 makes Vietnam Airlines to first airline to operate both the B787 and the Airbus A350XWB, two of the most modern aircraft on the market. Vietnam Airlines took delivery of its new A350XWB last month, read about it

. Vietnam Airlines currently serve the English capital four-times weekly, with two departures from Hanoi and two from Ho Chi Minh City. This will rise to five or six-times weekly following the deployment of the Dreamliner, and increasing further to a daily service for the Summer 2016 season. The B787-9 Dreamliner is the latest extension to Boeing’s super-efficient 787 family. The new aircraft will feature fully flat beds in Business Class, and passengers will also benefit from larger windows and stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity and cleaner air, lower cabin pressure and a smoother, quieter ride. Vietnam Airlines also plan to introduce in-flight WiFi on board its new Boeing 787-9. At the welcoming ceremony of the 787 in July, Dr. Pham Viet Thanh, Chairman of Vietnam Airlines, said: “I’m glad to introduce the very first Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Vietnam Airlines, marking the start of 19 of these new aircraft to expand our fleet and operations, I believe that with its state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly, safe and convenient features, the 787 will offer Vietnam Airlines’ customers new experiences and a new quality of service.”
