In May, Etihad Airways launched their new cabin class, ‘The Residence’, a completely separate first class apartment on board the aircraft, with a combined living and dining room, a bathroom with toilet and shower, and a double bedroom. The product also includes a butler who is responsible for all service and hospitality on board and is the only person who may have contact with the passengers in the Residence during the flight.

Etihad's first 13 butlers have now completed their training at the Savoy Butler Academy, at the renowned Savoy Hotel in London, and thus have become the world's first flying butlers. The course was a total of three weeks. All 13 butlers will be based in Abu Dhabi and and will work form there on Etihad's Airbus A380, where the new Residence will be. The maiden flight will depart on December 27th on the route Abu Dhabi-London Heathrow, and will continue with a daily departure.
