Following talks between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Australia has been added to the China's visa waiver program.
In basic terms, visitors from Australian can enjoy a complimentary 15-day visa to China. However, longer stays will still need an approved visa - which takes at least 14 days to process and cost AUD95. Travellers can now enjoy visa-free travel to China for business, tourism, transit or family visits.
In May, China offered visa-free travel to 12 countries - eleven from Europe and Malaysia - valid until the end of 2025. The move was to encourage more visitors to China - boosting business, and tourism. It also was hoped that Chinese citizens would travel abroad more. Citizens of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland are allowed visa-free travel into China until the end of 2025. Originally, the visa-free scheme was scheduled to end on 30th November this year.
New Zealand was added to the visa-free list in the last 10 days.
China also has a 30-day visa-free mutual agreement with Singapore and Thailand.
For visitors from the USA, China has removed the need for invitation letters and proof of hotel reservatons, air-tickets and itineraries.
