Waldorf Astoria debuts the first Zuma restaurant in Maldives

The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has unveiled the latest edition to its collection of eleven distinctive culinary experiences with the world’s first overwater Zuma Restaurant.

Zuma Maldives boasts breathtaking views of the turquoise Indian Ocean and its world-renowned contemporary Japanese cuisine - providing guests with a sophisticated twist on the traditional Izakaya style of informal eating and drinking.

Featuring a dramatic entrance combining elements of timber, light and granite to create an immersive optical illusion, the restaurant’s natural materials and local design techniques draw inspiration from its idyllic surroundings. The vibrant dining space includes the grand island bar, robata (Japanese charcoal grill), the sushi counter and the principal kitchen that serves speciality dishes made famous in the restaurant’s international outposts.

The à la carte menu showcases a variety of dishes from the three kitchens and features modern, authentic Japanese cuisine. Zuma serves dishes designed for sharing and brought to the table steadily and continuously throughout a meal. Specialities include thinly sliced Seabass with yuzu, truffle oil and salmon roe, roasted lobster with shiso ponzu butter, and spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chilli and sweet soy.

The dedicated lounge and bar offer a wide selection of carefully curated sake and fine wines, and an extensive range of contemporary cocktails and signature beverages, including lychee rose petal martini, Zuma colada or chilli and passion fruit margarita.
