Emirates is upgrading its in-flight experience by offering an exceptional range of fine wines from this month.
The airline, known for having the most comprehensive wine cellar in the aviation industry, stores approximately 6 million bottles in specialised facilities in France, with some wines reserved for service as late as 2037.
Each cabin class on Emirates flights features a unique wine selection, updated biweekly. Premium Economy serves sparkling vintage wines and premium red and white wines. Business and First Class offer tailored selections from six regions worldwide, along with premium Port wines including 1979 Graham’s and 1981 Dow's Tawny Ports.
The airline will soon add an exquisite selection of white Burgundy wines, including high-end Premier and Grand Crus such as Montrachet 2011, Chevalier-Montrachet 2013, and Corton-Charlemagne 2014. Additionally, exceptional red Burgundy wines, primarily Grand Crus like Échezeaux, Clos Vougeot, and Chambertin, will also be featured.
Emirates is also planning to introduce a range of First Growths from Bordeaux in the future, from esteemed estates like Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Château Cheval Blanc, and Château d'Yquem. These First Growths represent the pinnacle of the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, a system established under Emperor Napoleon III to grade châteaux based on quality, price, and reputation.
The selection process for Emirates' wines is rigorous, focusing on wines that excel both at ground level and in-flight. The criteria include fruit content, acidity, tannin levels, oak influence, and maturity. Many wines in Emirates' collection, dating back to the 2003 vintage, are chosen for their ageing potential. Bordeaux wines for Business Class are aged for 8-10 years, while those for First Class are aged for 12-15 years, all in professional facilities in France.
Currently, Emirates offers 36 varieties of French wines and Champagnes on its flights.
